Toddler found after being abandoned in desert

The Border Patrol rescued a baby in the middle of the Arizona desert.  The adventure began when a group of illegal immigrants was caught Tuesday night in the desert near Douglas.  A woman in the group gave her 16-month-old daughter to a man who managed to avoid being caught, hoping he would bring her daughter into town.  Instead, he left the child in the desert when she started to cry.  A Border Patrol spokesman tells KFYI News that Border Patrol agents found the toddler wandering in the desert around sunrise on Wednesday, about six hours after being abandoned.  Other than a few scrapes, she was OK.

Does this speak to the stupidity of the mother or her desperation? Mom gives her child to a guy in the middle of the night while in the act of branding herself a criminal. Mom gets picked up by the Border Patrol and Mr. Guy goes merrily off into the night with the baby.  What the above paragraph does not say is that after the mother was caught she waited over four hours before telling the agents that she had a child and the child was with someone else who was also out in the desert.

The agents tracked down the other criminal and he told them he had left the child alone on the ground out in the desert. The agents managed to find the baby before anything happened to it and mom and baby were reunited and sent back to Mexico. Unfortunately she was not sterilized prior to sending her back across the border. How can any mother be this astoundingly stupid? Is this really the type of people we want coming into our country? Makes me think that perhaps she might be of French ancestry- run away, run away.

The man was held on charges of entering the country illegally. No charges have yet been filed for child endangerment. Perhaps it’s a bad thing the child was found alive. After all, the child probably has the same defective DNA as the mother. God knows the world is full of enough obtuse people reproducing. Maybe a wide berth of landmines at the border would be a good thing. Anyone stupid enough to walk into a minefield and blow themselves up is probably not a good candidate for US residency.
