Medical Terms/Jargon

Tom Reynolds at Random Acts of Reality has a compendium of medical terms for the UK and the USA that can help one sort through the various acronyms used in my stories. Here is the link to his post which has several excellent links to other jargon sites.

Creepy E-Mails

posted 21 Jan 04

I get some of the strangest e-mails from weird and creepy people. I also get the usual number of e-mails from those ever so rich Nigerians, and penis spam. That doesn’t sound quite right. I hope spam isn’t made out of penises, but you never know. Anyway, I received the following e-mail, the author will remain anonymous as it’s not my intent to put a name to the sick creep who sent it to me. I was unsure as to how to respond to this, so I consulted the esteemed author of Da Goddess, who suggested the response I posted below. If this e-mail is real I suggest the author get some serious help and get some good pr0n blocking software. He might also push away from the computer and take up kite flying or something other than polishing hardware.

I am doing research on a book about nurses. I was wondering about the rumors that female nurses perform sexual acts on their patients. Would you say its true that female nurses have been known to discuss their patient’s genitalia amongst themselves as if they were competing for attention. For example one female nurse told me that quite often that her circle of nurses would discuss the size of some of their patients. Also furthermore she said that nurses would often check the size of the the genitalia by lifting the covers when the patient was sleeping or something of that nature. Of course nurses give baths to their patients when they are restricted so she told me often things would happen then as well. Are some of these stories true. You are of one of several people I am contacting via various blogs throughout the medical internet community.I will be looking forward to your response.

Response:

Dear Name Removed,

You apparently think saving the lives of people is secondary to any sexual fantasy a nurse might have. Or at least that's YOUR fantasy. The truth is, most nurses are far too worried whether their patients are breathing, bleeding out, or appropriately pain-free to even think about the size of anyone's genitalia. Add to that the fact that most nurses are too damn tired to take care of their lovers at home as well, there goes your wacked out scenario. I don't know who you've been talking to, but I think a tin foil cap might effectively block all of the voices. I suggest you walk into the emergency department of your local hospital and ask some of the staff there the same questions you've asked me. I'm sure they'll find the right person to answer your questions. Hope you like the color white...and lots of pretty little buckles and zippers.
Sincerely,
Too pooped to peek
