Medical Terms/Jargon

Tom Reynolds at Random Acts of Reality has a compendium of medical terms for the UK and the USA that can help one sort through the various acronyms used in my stories. Here is the link to his post which has several excellent links to other jargon sites.

Dear Matthew

posted 11 Sep 04

Dear Matthew,

I realize that as I write this you are mere days old and have not the slightest care past the breast you suckle and the loving arms who keep you safe. In fact, you are probably not even aware of the circumstances of your existence other than the strange attraction you have to the soft voice of your mother and her warm bosom.

Matthew, its approaching a pivotal day in American history and I hope when you read this in the future you are able to understand the great sacrifices heroic Americans have given to keep you and your sisters safe. I can’t predict the future but over 1000 brave heroes have selflessly given their lives in the cause of liberty. Many here and now assume these brave souls have died in vain for a country not worth defending. Even now they stand on street corners with loathsome signs denouncing our President as a liar and worse.

Matthew, on September 11, 2001 our great nation was attacked by puerile men with 8th century ignorance ploughed deeply into furrows and sown with hate. These men declared war on the United States years ago and we failed to heed their cry of war, until…

On 9/11 when thousands died, and our great President stepped up to his duty and started a war to vanquish pure evil.

We are currently approaching a Presidential election the outcome of which may mean the existence of our country. The two candidates pitted in mortal combat against each other face a foe so heinous and aligned with Satan himself that even they are failing to adequately take steps to prevent disaster. Three years ago over 3000 citizens died when radical Islamic terrorists hijacked planes and flew them into the Pentagon and the twin towers in New York City. This will be ancient history to you by the time you read this, but for us it is urgent and relevant.

President Bush directed that our armed forces enter Afghanistan and kill this vile enemy and liberate the 25 million souls held hostage to Satanic brutality almost unimaginable to our western minds. With dedication and courage a small band of fighting brothers from all the armed services joined with Afghan fighters and in a short span killed and expelled the terrorists from power.

Some of these terrorists fled to Iraq for safety. Iraq at the time was ruled by Saddam Hussien and his two spawn. To call them men is an insult to humanity as the acts they committed on their own citizens went far beyond what most of us could imagine one human could inflict on another. Without getting too graphic I can safely say they murdered and raped their own citizens without a care in the world, until…

A strong man of God, George W. Bush, our President, made the difficult decision to invade Iraq and liberate the people of that brutalized country. There is no way to tell how it will turn out in Iraq as I write this. The war is won but the tenuous peace is still to be cemented. I am too close in time to the event to predict if Iraq will finally be the first Middle Eastern country to throw off the yoke of Islamic suppression and build a free and open society. What I can tell you about our time is that there are a good number of Americans who just don’t get it. They fabricate lies about our president and froth and hate seemingly unaware that Islamic terrorists are trying to kill us and that the war is not over yet. They denounce the Presidents decision to go into Iraq and characterize our President as having “misled” us into an unnecessary war.

Hopefully by the time you read this these radical America haters will have been proven wrong by history and time. In the here and now I hear radical left wing Americans screaming for the removal of the President claiming an unjust war is being fought in their name. They say the Iraqi’s are worse off now than before we removed the brutal and psychopathic Saddam Hussien. They are blinded by hate much like the Islamic terrorists and discount the liberation of an additional 25 million Iraqis.

Before we went to war with Iraq the world had contained Saddam Hussien for 12 years. He had shown what a disregard he had for human life by gassing thousands of his own people and murdering and torturing people at will. In the early 1990’s he invaded Kuwait and plundered the country. In 1991 a coalition of willing countries kicked him out and set up no fly zones to protect citizens in the North and South of Iraq from attack by Saddam.

Tiring of trying to contain this madman and worried about him developing weapons of mass destruction another coalition of about thirty countries was formed to depose of Saddam and his regime. The war was a catastrophic success and Saddam was deposed in three weeks. Saddam got away but was eventually found hiding in a drained septic tank. His two sons were thankfully killed when they decided to try and take on our armed forces.

After the war the screeching from the hate America crowd reached a fevered pitch. The stock piles of known weapons of mass destruction were not found and it is speculated Saddam sent them to Syria for safe keeping. The left wing hate America crowd tried to get America to believe the war was an unjust war because of the general failure to find lots of weapons of mass destruction. They claimed that the President based his reason to go into Iraq on the WMD issue. You may have to do some research but in President George Bush’s presentation before the United Nations September 12, 2002 he laid out his reasons for the need to go into Iraq. The first reason he cited was the suffering of the Iraqi people. Only after he had made this point did he mention WMD.

As of this writing over three-hundred thousand bodies in mass graves have been found in Iraq. Three-hundred thousand souls murdered by the regime of Saddam Hussien. The hate America left would have us believe that we are worse than a dictator who would murder three-hundred thousand of his own people.

Thousands of terrorists flocked to Iraq after the war. Thousands of terrorists were killed in Iraq rather than facing them here in the United States. I read a statement by a US Marine who was asked by a reporter about all these terrorists coming into Iraq to fight them. The Marine simply stated that it made it easier to kill them because they didn’t have to hunt them down elsewhere.

As you read this in the future you need to understand that we are fearful of future attacks. Our government has said they are doing everything they can to keep us safe yet thousands of illegal aliens (mostly Mexican) run across the border daily. As I write this we have no certainty that some of those illegal aliens running freely across the border are not Islamic terrorists seeking to destroy our way of life.

Matthew, we face an unprecedented time in history in that while we are at war Americans are actively trying to undermine the government’s effort to fight this enemy. The two presidential candidates could not be more opposite in deed and thought. I believe George Bush may yet be reelected. You will know what the outcome was. The interesting thing about this Presidential race is the challenger who has been picked by the hate America crowd as their candidate to run the country. His name is John Kerry, and he was a Vietnam Veteran. He did as many did during the Vietnam war. He tried to get out of going to war.

When he found he could not get out of going to war he went as ordered. He spent one month in training and three short months in combat. In that three months he racked up medals like a slot machine with triple sevens. For twenty years he used his four month combat experience to continually get elected to the senate, until…

A group of Veterans who served with him and many who were in prison in North Vietnam began to speak up. You see, when Monsieur Kerry returned from Vietnam he went before congress and the nation and lied about all American servicemen committing atrocities while in Vietnam. He was still in the Navy at the time but was not prosecuted as he should have been. His lying words were used to torture American prisoners still held in North Vietnamese prisons. His lying words are coming back to haunt him now.

Kerry decided since his Vietnam service got him elected to the Senate it would work to get him elected as the President of the United States. Many of us just don’t care about his Vietnam service because it is ancient history. What we do care about is that Kerry voted against every weapons system ever proposed in congress, and he voted to cut funding for security services like the FBI and CIA. Thankfully, men of clearer thought did approve of the weapons systems and budget for security. The systems and security Kerry voted against were ready when the terrorists came calling. We were able to kill the terrorists and beat them back with minimal loss of American life. Had Kerry had his way thousands of American troops may have died defending freedom without the availability of advanced weapons systems.

Matthew, several times since 9/11 I have witnessed our President committing acts of humanity. Shortly after 9/11 a World Series was held in New York City. Risking his safety the President took the mound and threw out the opening pitch. He then stood giving the thumbs up sign to the entire world. This act did more than strengthen the will and spirit of the American people. It sent a message to the world that Americans will not be cowed by the acts of ignorant terrorists.

The second act of humanity I would like to tell you about took place here in Phoenix at a rally for the President. After the Presidents speech he entered the crowd shaking hands and giving hugs to supporters. Your aunt and I were fairly close to the President and at one point noticed him taking a small infant from a mother’s arms. The infant was probably only slightly older than you Matthew at the time of this writing. Taking the infant from his mother the President of the United States, the most powerful man on the face of the earth, closed his eyes, cocked his head and snuggled that little infant into the crook of his neck.

Matthew, when I cast my vote for George Bush I hope you remember I am casting it for you. I am casting it for all those who are unable to defend themselves from terror but who rely on those brave and strong men/women of our armed forces to do that job for us. I’m casting a vote for the Presidential candidate who is unafraid to send the unchaste whelks of Islamic terrorism to their eternal punishment in Tartarus.
